Family Medicine Welcomes New Staff Member: Amy Guimarães, M.S.

The Department of Family Medicine is pleased to welcome Amy Guimarães, M.S. as a new member of its staff. Ms. Guimarães joins the Research Division as the SIPPY II Study Project Coordinator. She will be assisting the study's Principal Investigator, Dan Merenstein, M.D., with recruitment, data collection, and other major tasks.
Amy Guimarães is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and earned a masters in Physiology from Georgetown University in 2006. While an undergrad, she conducted social sciences-based research on the doctor-patient relationship in public hospitals in Brazil. Prior to joining the Department of Family Medicine at Georgetown University, Ms. Guimarães spent a summer conducting systematic reviews of scientific literature on numerous traditional herbal supplements used in the treatment of diabetes. Ms. Guimarães has also worked for a health sciences consulting firm where she contributed to the compilation of numerous probiotic safety evaluations.
