Dr. Alison Bartleman is a graduate of University of Maryland and Howard University College of Medicine. She currently is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Director of the Doctoring Selectives course and Health Policy & Economics module and Associate Director of Social Cultural Issues in Healthcare, all of which are part of the first year Doctoring Curriculum. She also is the Director of Georgetown's practice based research network, CAPRICORN and serves as Advisor to the Family Medicine Student Interest Group. Dr. Bartleman is a clinician at the Federally Qualified Health Center in the District of Columbia - Columbia Road Health Services where she practices full-spectrum Family Medicine in an urban underserved Latino community. She also is an attending physician at Providence Hospital with the Providence Hospital/Georgetown University Family Medicine Residency Program. She teaches both on the inpatient medicine and Obstetrical services teams and as a preceptor at Fort Lincoln Family Medicine Center in Bladensburg, MD. Her professional interests include care for the underserved and vulnerable populations, effectiveness research and preventive medicine.

Dr. Kim A. Bullock is a graduate of Yale University (B.A., History of Science and Medicine) and the University of Michigan Medical School (M.D.). In the past, she has worked as an attending physician for the emergency departments of Providence Hospital and Caremont Indian Hospital. Currently, Dr. Bullock serves as Community Health Division Director, CHCDD Fellowship Director, and Associate Professor for the Department of Family Medicine. For Providence Hospital, Dr. Bullock serves as Medical Director for the Seton House Substance Abuse Center, Vice Chairperson/Assistant Director for the Emergency Department, and Director of Ambulatory Emergency Services.

Dr. Donna D. Cameron is a graduate of Columbia Union College (B.A., Elementary Education), Loma Linda University (MPH, Community Health Education), and the University of Maryland (PhD, Health Education). In the past, she has served as an adjunct faculty member and course director at two colleges, a consultant for domestic and international health organizations, a co-principal investigator on several grants, and an invited lecturer. Currently, Dr. Cameron serves as Service-Learning Program Director and Assistant Professor for the Department of Family Medicine. She also works as a professional motivational speaker and pianist.

Dr. Yumi Shitama Jarris is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Course Co-Director of Social & Cultural Issues in Health Care and Health Care Policy & Economics, and Director of Predoctoral Education. She also co-directs the Human Sexuality course and practices in Adolescent Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at GUH. She received her M.D. degree from the University of Maryland and completed residency training in Family Medicine at the Fairfax Family Practice Program. She completed a faculty development fellowship at the Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Jarris began her career at the University of Washington where she helped found a University of Washington affiliated residency program. Prior to coming to Georgetown University, she spent 16 years in Vermont where she practiced full spectrum family medicine. She was Associate Director of the required Family Medicine Clerkship at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, and later the Director of Senior Student Programs. Dr. Jarris was instrumental in expanding the standardized patient program at the University of Vermont.

Dr. Erica McClaskey currently serves as course director for Ambulatory Care I and II. Dr. McClaskey is an undergraduate of Howard University, and received her medical degree at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She also has a Masters degree in Cell and Development Biology from the University of Houston in Texas. Dr. McClaskey has a long standing relationship with Georgetown. She was a chief resident at Georgetown University / Providence Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program, and she was a Fellow in the Department of Family Medicine's Community Health Center Director Development Program in 2007.

Dr. Dan Merenstein is a graduate of Brandeis University and Jefferson Medical College. He completed his residency at Fairfax Family Practice in Virginia, where he was chief resident. Dr. Merenstein is actively involved in clinical, teaching, and research endeavors in the Department of Family Medicine. He has published and presented nationally and internationally on various research topics. He has an interest in effectiveness research, or research occurring in real-life situations. He is the Principal Investigator on the DRINK, MILK and SIPPY studies, and organizes and oversees the research team conducting the studies.

Dr. Ranit Mishori is the Family Medicine Clerkship Director. She has been involved in the Mind-Body Medicine program since 2008. Dr. Mishori is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Georgetown University/Providence Hospital Family Medicine Residency. She holds a master’s degree in International Health from the John’s Hopkins University School of Public Health. In addition to being the director of the required third year Family Medicine Clerkship Dr. Mishori teaches various pre-doc courses, including: Evidence-Based Medicine I & II, Physical Diagnosis, Selectives, Social and Cultural Issues in Health Care, Clinical Pharmacology, Physician Patient Communication, and Ambulatory Care. She is also the recipient of several academic awards, including the International Programs Award, Natural Medicine Recognition Award, and Residency Teaching Excellence Award. Clinically, Dr. Mishori has a joint appointment with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where she sees patients. She also serves as an attending physician at the Georgetown University/Providence Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. Prior to medical school, Dr. Mishori had a career as a television producer. Following medical school, she maintained her interest in communicating important issues to the public and has been named Contributing Health Editor, Parade Magazine. She is also a regular contributor to Washington Post, among other publications. Her interests include: care of the underserved; patient education and health communications; preventive health and global health.

Dr. Schwartz is the Associate Dean for Informatics in the Office of Medical Education at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor and former Director of Predoctoral Education in the Department of Family. He joined the faculty in 1998 and became Assistant Predoctoral Director and Clerkship Director in 1999. Dr. Schwartz graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his Family Practice residency training in the Georgetown/Providence Family Practice Residency Program. He received a certificate in Medical Informatics from the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 10x10 program at University of Chicago, November of 2009. His academic interests include quality in medicine, medical error reduction and medical informatics particularly the use of handheld computers in clinical practice and education. He was a leader in establishing a handheld computer (PDA) requirement in the Medical school in 2004, and has lectured nationally on the use of PDA in clinical medical practice. He has additional interest in Complementary and Alternative Medicin. His interests and practice in Mind-Body Medicine date back to experiences with meditation and martial arts training in the mid 1980’s. He completed Mind-Body-Sprit Medicine Professional Training and Advanced professional training in 2002. In addition to leading Mini-Body Skills groups for students, he has lectured at the Nation Capital Conference Board Review in Washington, DC on this topic for several years. Dr. Schwarz divides his time between his academic duties and his private group practice where he serves as an officer on the on the Board of Directors and leads their EMR initiatives. He is currently developing solutions to improve inter physician communication through technology. Additionally, he serves on several advisory committees for institutional and private companies involved with medical information technologies and electronic prescribing, including, SureScripts, DrFirst (Rcopia).

Dr. Jay Siwek is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine, and he completed his Family Medicine residency at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut. For the Department of Family Medicine, he serves as Vice-Chair, Editor of American Family Physician, and Professor. His professional interests include primary care, geriatric medicine, and preventive medicine.
Caroline Wellbery, M.D., PhD

Dr. Caroline Wellbery is a graduate of the University of California School of Medicine and Stanford University, where she earned a PhD in Comparative Literature. She is currently serving as Associate Deputy Editor of the journal American Family Physician and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Wellbery also sees patients in a free-standing walk-in center, Secure Medical Care. Her interests include writing, language, literature in medicine, and using the arts to teach the many aspects of patients' experiences. Her website, Interacting with the Medical Humanities, outlines a curriculum of arts-in-medicine education. The website offers a wealth of stories from the perspective of both patients and doctors, as well as artistic representations of illness and suffering. Dr. Wellbery has presented her work nationally and internationally and has published on the use of arts in medical education, medical uncertainty, as well as on clinical topics.

Dr. James C. Welsh is the Chair in the Department of Family Medicine. Concurrently, he is the Assistant Vice President of Student Health Services for Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Human Science in the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Dr. Welsh completed his undergraduate degree with honors from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a residency in Family Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Mary Washington, and a Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to coming to Georgetown, he was the founder and President of Rappahannock Family Physicians and the President of Primary Care Associates in Fredericksburg, Virginia. From 1995 to 2003, Dr. Welsh held a number of positions at Georgetown University Hospital, including the Vice President of the Community Practice Network and the Associate Medical Director of the hospital. Since 2003 he has been responsible for the Student Health Center and oversees all medical and behavioral health services delivered to the students of Georgetown University. Dr. Welsh has been the Interim Chair since March, 2008. In that role, Dr. Welsh oversees the operation of all facets of the Department, including the divisions of community health, research, predoctoral education, fellowships, and residency.
